The Hope Lodge in Burlington, Vermont will receive half of proceeds raised from “A Summer Night’s Dream” to support the operating costs associated with housing cancer patients and their families/caregivers who travel greater than 40 miles for treatment at the UVM Cancer Center. These costs include shelter (including disability access), food, transportation, resource library and 24 hour staffing. Half of proceeds will support basic, clinical and translational research at the University of Vermont (UVM) Cancer Center. A comprehensive cancer center established in 1974, the UVM Cancer Center is Vermont’s only facility that provides education, diagnosis, treatment, research, and support to cancer patients of Vermont and upstate New York.   Patients that are undergoing treatment for cancer can be both financially and emotionally overwhelmed. Getting the right care sometimes means that cancer patients must travel far from home, often to a cancer treatment facility in another city, adding the additional burden of transportation, hotel, and meal expenses. Hope Lodge offers free, temporary housing for cancer patients and their families who are undergoing treatment. More than a place to stay, Hope Lodge is a home away from home, offering a comfortable and supportive environment for encouragement and healing. Getting emotional and social support from other survivors can be as important as getting the proper medical care. At Hope Lodge, guests share similar experiences, and are supported by caring staff and volunteers.
