Meteorologist Amanda Thibault joined Local 22 & Local 44 in June 2015.

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in gorgeous Clearwater, FL in the heart of Tampa Bay!

Where did you attend school?
I graduated from Florida State University (go Noles) with a B.S. in Meteorology and minors in Mathematics and Environmental Studies.  At Florida State, I served as a team leader, producer and on-air forecaster for one of the only 30 minute, student-run weather shows in the country. I also had the incredible opportunity to travel to Guatemala, not only once but twice, where I served as a translator for mission teams providing medical and construction services to the beautiful Mayan people.

Where have you worked previously?
While earning the International Baccalaureate Diploma during high school, I worked as a weekday evening weather producer at WFTS (ABC Action News) in Tampa, Florida under the guidance of Chief Meteorologist Denis Phillips.

After graduation from Florida State, I participated with the Center for Severe Weather Research on ROTATE 2012 (Radar Observations of Tornadoes & Thunderstorms Experiment) as a scout vehicle navigator and severe weather forecaster. ROTATE was a tornado research project funded by the National Science Foundation. The goal of this project is to collect low-level wind data from Doppler on Wheels (DOW) vehicles, mobile mesonet vehicles, and deployable tornado pods, in order to increase warning lead times and improve building construction codes. My work on this project provided a firsthand experience of the impacts severe weather can have on lives and property when I was thrust into the position of first responder. Our team assisted in a rescue following an EF-2 tornado in Russell, Kansas. Talk about getting up close and personal, that same tornado struck our vehicle. Thankfully, we were not hurt.

After the project wrapped up, I headed to Minot, North Dakota where I worked as Weather Director and sole meteorologist at KMOT-TV NBC North Dakota News. Here, this Florida girl got her first true taste of winter, -80 wind chill and all!

What are your hobbies?
I was a bunhead growing up, ballet, jazz, hip hop, you name it! And I still take class on occasion. I love being active outdoors and exploring new places.

What are your favorite sports teams?
Believe it or not, I'm a big sports nut! In case you couldn't guess, the Florida State Seminoles! Saturdays in Fall, you can find me glued to the TV watching college football. But, I'm my daddy's girl and come Sundays, you'll find me sporting that green & gold of the Green Bay Packers. I do love my hometown I-4 corridor teams of Tampa & Orlando, too. Fun fact, the Green Bay Packers & Tampa Bay Bucs have both won Superbowls on my Birthday. Coincidence? I think not.

What is your favorite book?
Too many to name! I'm a big book worm. I love historical fiction and mystery/crime novels.

What is your favorite food?
Mac n cheese all day, every day. But I'm a big foodie and will try just about anything!

What is one thing you would put on a "bucket list"?
I would love to travel as much as possible.
