Beautiful Lake Champlain isn't as pleasant as it looks if you jump into the open waters! That's because the water temperature is hovering in the 50s to near 60 degrees! Now if that's your thing then perhaps it's just right for you. I know for me, I prefer it a tad warmer.

According to data from Echo, weather stations, and the National Weather Service, the temperature of the water ranged from 57-61 degrees on Friday morning, June 27th. The coldest spot on the list was Diamond Island at 57, warmest at the King St. Ferry Dock at 61F. That's where we find some climate data for the Burlington coastline and it shows the average temperature for the last weekend of June is 64F. So we're just a tad behind.

The lake level is slightly higher than average too, sitting at about 97.50 feet as of Friday morning. The average level transitioning from June to July is somewhere at or slightly below 97 feet, falling to its lowest annual level of about 95-96 feet during the summer. See the pictures above for more on the average temp and level.

So we're sitting just about where we 'ought to be' for early summer regarding the lake. Warm weather in the forecast for the turn of the calendar will surely heat up the water temperature, perhaps enough for you to jump in!
