Christine Souders is a reporter and weekend anchor at Local 22 and Local 44. She joined the team in March 2014.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in a small town called German Valley, IL. It's length span is literally 8 blocks. My family and I moved to another town over, Freeport, IL, to attend a different school when I was 8 years old. My high school Mascot was the Freeport Pretzels, yes pretzels, the snack food.
Where did you attend school?
I attended Northern Illinois University, in DeKalb, IL where I studied Broadcast Journalism. I anchored, produced, and reported for the daily newscast NTC News Tonight. Also, I completed two internships while attending school at WIFR in Rockford, IL, and ABC7 Chicago.
Where have you worked previously?
My first job out of college was WAOW-TV in Wausau, WI, as a Multimedia Journalist/Producer. During my time there I covered various topics, from politics, Governor Scott Walker surviving Wisconsin Recall Election, to my very first experience ice fishing on the Wisconsin River.
My next stop, CBS 4 News in the Quad Cities. I spent two years covering two states. Also during an exciting time, while President Barack Obama, and Republican Candidate Mitt Romney were on the campaign trail to beat out each other in the 2012 Presidential Election.
I had the pleasure of cover the rallies, and watch these guys in action.
What is the most challenging story you've ever done?
The most challenging, although very rewarding was covering the Washington, IL Tornado. This tornado devasted an entire community, and received national attention. The moment I laid eyes on the crushed houses, and debris, it was quite overwhelming. But to experience a community coming together after such devastation was remarkable.
Who is your favorite national correspondent?
It's a toss up between CNN'S Wolf Blitzer, and CNN Outfront's Erin Burnett.
What are your hobbies?
I love watching movies that remind me of my childhood. Challenge me on some obscure titles. Also, I love the outdoors. My favorite, kayaking while soaking up the sun, and taking in the beautiful scenery.
I plan to dust off my snowboard and get on the slopes. I've never skiied before, but I'm hoping to learn how to.
I enjoy being spontaneous, and diving into the local scene. I may be from the Midwest, but I thoroughly anticipate emmersing myself into anything and everything local.
What are your favorite sports teams?
I love them Chicago Cubbies, Bulls, and Bears, but I'll always support the Underdog team!
What is your favorite book?
It's hard to choose one, but Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer tops them all.
I'm also a sucker for the Nancy Drew Series, I also love any David Sedaris Books, Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert, and Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut.
What is your favorite food?
I love Chocolate Covered Strawberries!
What is one thing you would put on a "bucket list"?
Riding a hot air balloon, and scuba dive The Great Barrier Reef.
