Attorney General Joseph Foster says 48-year-old Stephen Arkell was the officer who was shot, during a domestic disturbance call at a home in Brentwood, New Hampshire.
Police say it happened at around 4 p.m. Monday.
“Brentwood police officer Steve Arkel responded to that call,” Foster said. “The best information we have so far is that officer Arkel was fatally shot as he entered the home. The shooter is believed to be Michael Nolan, age 47.”
Foster said another officer arrived, but was driven out by gun fire. Foster said a short time later the home engulfed in flames, and later exploded.
The case remains under investigation.
