Morse says first of all that paddleboarding is an excellent core workout and stability exercise. Adding the yoga even makes it that much better! Here's her interview with Steve:
Morse: "Paddleboarding in general is a great workout. Now we're adding the element of yoga to it. That will really help your technique because
the board will let you know because it's so unstable. It'll let you know how your technique is for yoga."
Morse: "It's a beginner level yoga class so we start with doing some sun salutations a lot of people are familiar with that. Most of the class we'll have both hands and both feet down on the board so you get really comfortable. Then we'll start working with you lifting up one foot then at the end start messing around with some fun poses; full wheel, headstand, crow, just a lot of fun positions."
Steve: "I was just doing the headstand, what do you think?"
Morse: "You came very close! Just engage the core a little more and have a little more confidence. Once people fall in I notice people are a lot more comfortable, relaxed, and they have a lot more fun and they can get into the poses a lot more."
Morse: "I think that people get stuck in exercise regimes and then they become stagnant. So adding the novelty of a paddleboard is phenomenal for motivation and again just working on flexibility and stability."
Wndnwvs offers SUP Yoga classes Thursday from 5:30-7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 4:00-5:30 p.m. at Perkins Pier in Burlington. It costs $20 if you have a paddleboard, $35 if you don't.
