Ben & Jerry's Adds a Sprinkle to National Coming Out Day

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Ben & Jerry's is celebrating National Coming Out Day with special scoops.

If you got rainbow sprinkles with your ice cream today at the shop on Burlington's Church Street the company made a donation to "Outright Vermont."

There were also t-shirts and stickers on sale as well with a portion of the proceeds going to the non-profit, which works with LGBTQ youth.

The shop manager says their ice cream has a purpose and they want to start conversations in the community.

"As a large company, as a community member here in Vermont, I think it's our responsibility to use our amplification and our platform to shine light and give space, to have conversations for great organizations like this." Said Ryan Midden.

Ben & Jerry's was the first major company in Vermont to offer health care benefits to same sex couples, in the late 1980's.
