Burlington, Vt - $340,000 could go a long way to upgrade the Burlington Fire Department's dispatch system.
The Board of Finance approved the money at it's meeting Monday.
Right now, the department uses index cards. The cards are broken down by street segment, but here's the problem. It uses the same level of resources for a report of a single family house fire, and a multi-unit apartment building.
"We use an older technology to dispatch our fire and EMS units," said Burlington Fire Department Chief Steven Locke. "This will be state of the art and they'll be able to send out resources based upon their location, call type, and target hazards."
The topic now heads to City Council for approval on October 16.
