Public works wants to create a new downtown parking core with smart meters.
The hourly rate would go from $1.00 to $1.50 an hour and people would be able to pay with credit cards.
This is just part of a bigger plan and in total is expected to raise nearly an extra half-million dollars a year for the city.
"For much of the downtown, there will be the same price there is today and the same enforcement hours. So, we're providing more options for people. At the same time, we can reinvest in our system," says Chapin Spencer, director of Burlington Public Works.
There will be improvements to parking garages and new signs to let drivers know which garages have open spaces.
The plan goes before the Public Works Commission for approval on July 16th.
It would go into effect in October.
