School will be back in session on Wednesday in Burlington.
Burlington Teachers and the School Board have reached a tentative contract agreement Tuesday night, after an eight-hour mediation session. The agreement still needs to be ratified by both sides.
"I am pleased to inform the Burlington community that we have reached a tentative agreement with the BEA," said Board Chair Mark Porter.
"The Board and the District have a tremendous amount of respect for our teachers, students, taxpayers and our community - which is reflected in this contract. We are glad we can move forward as a community and get back to what matters most - educating our youth," Porter continued.
The mediator has instructed both parties not to disclose specifics of the agreement until it has been ratified, according to a release from the school board.
"We are extremely fortunate to have dedicated and caring teachers in Burlington," said Superintendent Yaw Obeng.
"This has been a challenging time for our community. It is important that we now move forward together. We are one District and one team, and I am confident we can all heal and learn from this experience," Obeng continued.
The district will follow its usual Wednesday schedule:
- BHS: Block 1 begins at 8:50 a.m.
- Early release at 1:50 p.m. at all elementary schools
- Early release at 2:00 p.m. at both middle schools
