Emergency facilities are in place at South Burlington High School after a car accident resulted in a downed power line Saturday night.

South Burlington Police and Fire responded to a damaged telephone pole and power line in the area of Hinesburg Road and Deane Street after a car struck the pole around 10:30 pm.

According to police, the pole broke and fell onto the vehicle, resulting in power outages in the city.

Due to the extreme cold and power outages, emergency facilities are being set up at South Burlington High School by the Red Cross.  These facilities include temporary shelter until power is returned.

Hinesburg Road between the area of Winding Brook Drive and Woodcrest Drive remains closed to traffic while utility companies attempt to resolve the issue.

The South Burlington Police Department also urges drivers to use caution as the power outage is affecting traffic lights in the City.
