Cardboard Box Parade Encourages Reading

Burlington, Vt - Kids in cardboard boxes are a familiar sight on Church Street during the summer.
Burlington Parks and Rec's box parade is a way to show off what kids read or learned in Fletcher Free Library's summer reading program.

It's also just a way for the kids to have fun.

This year's theme is to "build a better world," and to do so through reading.
"Not just reading, but learning in general. Reading is an essential component to start to learn." Said Fletcher Lee Library Outreach Coordinator Abbey Pasquence. "So, we want to mix up reading and science and math and art and engineering into one big, awesome megamix."

The parade has been on-going for the better part of three decades.
