WEST CHAZY, NY - The maple season kicked off in the North Country Saturday with a little help from Assemblyman Billy Jones (D-115th Assembly District).
He ceremonially tapped a tree at Parker Family Maple Farm in West Chazy, NY.
“It’s something we try to do every year in our association of maple producers, it helps get the word out and promotes our industry,” said Laura Trudeau, with Parker Family Maple Farm.
“It’s important for our economy here in New York. It ties into agritourism as well, because we have many places in the area that people can come and stop by so I can’t stress the point enough how important maple production is to the economy here in the North Country,” said Assemblyman Jones.
After tapping the tree, Assemblyman Jones said he was most excited about trying some of the syrup made at Parker Family Maple Farm over breakfast.
New York Maple Weekend is March 17-18, and 24-25, 2018. Vermont Maple Open House Weekend is March 24-25, 2018.
