City of Burlington Settles Law Suit in Rights Case

Burlington, Vermont - A settlement has been reached in a lawsuit filed against the City of Burlington and one of it's police officers, concerning a rights violation.
 
Michael Mullen will receive 100-thousand-dollars according his attorney, David Bond.

Last year, Mullen was charged with felony drug possession after being stopped by officer Christopher Lopez.

Body camera footage from Lopez contradicted the affidavit he filed, that showed he smelled marijuana.
 
Mullen filed a lawsuit against Lopez and the city, his charges have been dismissed and Lopez has since resigned.

Bond says although the ordeal cost his client four months in jail, they are pleased.

in an email Burlington's attorney, Eileen Blackwood said "The city believes that the claims against it would not have prevailed."
