Colchester, Vt. - The Colchester Police Department has something big to celebrate... Its 50th anniversary in existence.
Today the community was invited to an open house to celebrate the department’s big mile stone. It was founded in 19-67.
Kids took part in scavenger hunts, exploring the department’s police cruisers, boats and jail cells.
The PD's K9 Tazor was also on hand on for a live training demo.
Lieutenant Douglas Allen says the department could not do its job without the community "Colchester Police we are very lucky we have the support of the community. It’s very important to us. We derive our authority from the community its self and we could not do our job without the support that we have."
Tomorrow the celebrations continue with the Colchester historical society and Chief Jennifer Morrison’s presentation on the changes of the department throughout the years. That's at the historical society at seven.
