TOWNSHEND, Vt. - An employee at a Townshend horse farm died in a barn fire in the early hours of Sunday morning, according to Vermont State Police.
The Townshend Fire Department responded to the Fresians of Majesty Horse Farm on Maggie Ladd Road at 12:30am.
A large barn on site with two apartment units attached was fully engulfed in flames when fire officials arrived.
Officials soon learned an employee was unaccounted for.
“After gathering witness statements the investigators were able to determine the victim may have been in the area of the lab. This was also the location where the fire appeared to have originated. After excavating the area investigators were able to locate the victim,” read the press release from Detective Sergeant Larry Smith with the Vermont State Police Fire Investigation Unit.
Police are not releasing the name of the victim at this time. An autopsy will be performed at the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington.
The fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature, police say.
