The Burlington Police Department welcomed four new officers and promoted three on Thursday.

During the swearing in ceremony, members of the community were introduced to the group.

Chief Brandon del Pozo also promoted Shawn Burke from Lieutenant to Deputy Chief, since Bruce Bovat retired.

The Chief also noted the difficulties of being a police officer, right now.

"This is a real challenging time for American Police it is a challenging time here in Vermont as well but it is great to see that we have men and women that still want to wear this uniform and give it their all and not only that want to take on the mantle of leadership,” explained del Pozo.

Following Thursday’s ceremony, all four officers will attend Vermont’s Police Academy for six weeks of training.
