Groundbreaking for New Apartment Complex in Burlington

Burlington, Vt. - Construction has started on a project that started nearly 10 years ago. Thursday morning a groundbreaking ceremony was held at 316 Flynn Ave in Burlington.

The project is expected to wrap up in about a year from now. It will create 30 apartments and two neighborhood retail stores. This is one of many housing projects in the Burlington area that the company Redstone is working on. Managing Partner Erik Hoekstra said there's a great need for housing in the city.

"It's pretty well known that the city of Burlington needs housing," Hoekstra said. "We have a very tight vacancy rate for apartments in Burlington– suggesting that there is more demand than there is supply."

The property used to be home to a small apartment building and Pine Street Deli. The family that owned the deli is working with Redstone. Hoesktra explained that closing the deli was part of the families retirement plan and it's unlikely that the deli will come back.
