Housing Leaders Discuss Need for More Options in VT

Housing Officials Meet for Vermont's 2016 Housing Conference

Burlington, Vt. - In Housing Matters, improving Vermont's housing stock, while keeping prices affordable.  That was the topic of discussion at Vermont's 2016 Housing Conference.

Nearly 400 of Vermont's top housing officials and agencies are meeting in Burlington for the two day conference.  The goal is to create non-traditional partnerships to improve the lives of Vermonters.  Organizers say the housing wants and needs of communities differ from one state to another.

"In Chittenden County, we definitely need to build stock.  But other parts of the state we really need to work on improving the quality.  We've got some big, old arcs of houses that need repair and are hard to modify to rental or make affordable for a single family," stated Sarah Carpenter, Executive Director of the Vermont Housing Finance Agency.

The 2016 Vermont Housing Conference continues Tuesday.  Local legislators will be on hand to discuss what measures can be taken on a state level, as well as the need for more federal assistance.
