Hundreds Hit the Slopes at Killington in June

KILLINGTON, VT - Sunny slopes drew hundreds of skiers to Killington.

For the first time in over a decade the ski area offered lifts in June.

For some, 60 degrees, Hawaiian shorts and a little bit of mud are the perfect combo to hit the slopes. Hundreds flocked to Killington Ski Area on the first day June and the last day to catch a lift for the season.

"I've never skied in June. It's my first time," says Jon Barrows.

“Feels good, for 80’s day so it was about three weeks ago and I didn't expect to be back out," says Katie Murphy.

The lifts were free and open to the public.

Turns out June 1st is not just a great day to ski in Vermont but also to fire up the grill.

“You know it's the last hurrah of the year so we are out for some burgers and some turns and we're going to have a good time," says Dave Williams of Kene, NH.

Killington Resort says it’s the the only mountain in the east that remains open and for the first time in 15 years that it remains open until June.

“I drove all the way up here from Rhode Island. It's a four hour drive. Got here for first chair and it's been a beautiful day, 60 degrees and sunny and skiing in June.”
