JDRF One Walk Raises More than $120,000 for Type 1 Diabetes Research

Hinesburg, Vt - Hundreds of people headed out to Hinesburg for the JDRF One Walk Sunday.

JDRF is the largest organization supporting Type 1 Diabetes Research, also known as Juvenile Diabetes.

Currently there is no cure for it.

If you're worried that your child may have it, a simple test at your doctor's office can help your family get started on the right path.

"Just do a simple blood test. One drop of blood will immediately determine what an individual's glucose level is which can lead them on the road to either knowing that they have type one and getting the proper treatment or figuring out if it's something else," Jennifer Foster, the Vermont Development Coordinator for JDRF, said.

Foster says 80 percent of each dollar raised goes to research.

The goal this year was to raise $139,000. By Sunday afternoon, the group was well on its way to that goal, with more than $120,000 in donations.

You may have seen some familiar faces at the walk at Champlain Valley Union High School today. Local 22 & Local 44 are proud sponsors of the walk.
