Jobs cut at Essex GlobalFoundries Plant

Essex, Vt. - Some employees at the GlobalFoundries chip manufacturing plant in Essex were let go Tuesday.

"We took a number of steps this spring to improve our cost-competetiveness—including reductions in expenses & processes along with a voluntary retirement program in April." said spokesperson James Keller.

"Unfortunately, we fell a bit short of our targets and needed to let go a few employees today. However the previous cost-cuts, along with the voluntary program, helped keep this to a very limited number," Keller continued.

Less than a dozen jobs were cut, all in support-type positions, according to a spokesman.
