Washington, D.C. -
Confirmation hearings for Judge Neil Gorsuch started Monday and will continue Tuesday morning.
Vermont’s senior senator Patrick Leahy questioned Gorsuch saying blocking then-President Obama’s pick was unprecedented and a move that ignored the constitution something he criticized President Trump over.
"Senate republicans made a big show last year about respecting the voice of the American people in this process” said Leahy. “Now they're arguing that the senate should rubber stamp a nominee selected by extreme interest groups and nominated by a president who lost the popular vote by nearly 3 million votes. And that president has demonstrated hostility to our constitutional rights and values."
Judge Gorsuch said in his decade on the bench he's tried to treat everyone fairly and with respect.
He said his decisions have never reflected a judgement about people, but about the law and facts in each case.
