Local Hardware Store Looking to Bring the Community Together Through Brews

Local hardware store opens up a bar

Cabot, Vt. - Nestled in the heart of downtown Cabot, Harry's Hardware has been a staple in the small town for many years.

But current owners Bobby and Stephanie Searles were looking to change the direction of the business and draw in a new crowd.

That's when they came up with the idea for The Den.

Bobby Searles say  "This idea came out of all of our ideas on how to bring the community together at the same time as draw the tourist in."

They partnered with Johanna and Rory Thibaelt to add a bar to the hardware store.

Before The Den, if locals were looking to grab a drink with friends they would have to travel to Saint Johnsbury or Hardwick to find a bar. Now its a quick trip down the road.

The Den is only selling beer and wine.. no hard alcohol but they are making sure that all of there products are from local Vermont breweries and wineries.

For those worried about the noise of a bar in quiet downtown Cabot, have no fear. The Den closes at a very early 9 p.m.

Searles says that he wants The Den to be a watering hole for locals and a gathering place of old friends.

The Den at Harry's Hardware is holding it's grand opening celebration this Saturday from 3-9 p.m. There will be live music provided by local- Cabot based bands as well as beer and wine tastings.
