Lyndon State and Johnson State Colleges are closer to deciding on becoming one institution.

Vermont State Colleges Chancellor Jeb Spaulding says a vote will likely take place Thursday morning.

If approved, a new name will be necessary, but it would likely not be decided on until later this fall.

In an informal electronic poll, Spaulding says the majority of people would like the new school to be a university, instead of a college.

Spaulding also expects Dr. Elaine Collins, current Johnson State College President, to lead the unified school.
