Man Arrested for Waving BB Gun in Downtown Burlington

Burlington, Vt. - Burlington police say a man is in custody after waving a gun around at the intersection of Main St. and Church St.

Officials say they received several calls just after 4 p.m. Friday about a man, later identified as Jason Breault.

Police say people were worried about their safety and went inside local businesses, and the shops closed their doors for safety reasons.

Authorities say officers were able to de-escalate the situation without incident and arrested Breault.  He's charged with disorderly conduct and violation of pre-trial conditions of release, according to a release from police.

Officials say Breault was found with a BB gun, which was a replica of a Colt 1911; he was also found with a knife.

Breault has been charged with 6 felony crimes and 23 misdemeanors, according to police.  He's being held at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility in South Burlington.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call Cpl. Eric Dalla Mura at 802-540-2286 or email edallamurra@bpdvt.org.
