COLCHESTER, Vt. - Miss Vermont will soon be the first ever Miss America contestant to fly herself to a competition. She will take flight this Saturday to Atlantic City, New Jersey for the 2018 Miss America Pageant.
22-year-old Erin Connor says she excited for both the experience of the pageant and the opportunity to take flight. She’s been flying since she was 16 years old, and the two passions are one she’s grateful she can combine.
“Here I get to go to Miss America, a once in a lifetime experience, and I get to fly myself there, another thing I love to do. It’s a win win all around,” Connor said.
Connor took home the Miss Vermont crown back in April, and since then she’s been busy making public appearances and attending events around the state. She says she’s just completed her 70th appearance since winning the title.
Once Miss Vermont arrives in Atlantic City, she says she has a busy two weeks ahead. Her schedule is packed every day from about 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. with charity events, appearances, rehearsals and photo shoots.
“This is a once and a lifetime experience. Sam Haskell the President and C.E.O of Miss America said you’re more likely to have a son compete and play for the NFL then a daughter to even go to Miss America, so that’s pretty cool and I’m excited to participate in it,” Connor said.
You can catch the 2018 Miss America competition September 10 at 9 p.m. on Local 22.
