Selling a home is a painstaking and, at times, difficult process. So experts say don't make it harder on yourself by getting in your own way.

The real estate website Trulia put together these tips on how to make your home sale easier and more efficient.

Don't sell it yourself. Experts say to hire a professional to sell your home. Those who do sell faster and for more.

Overpricing or under pricing your home. Do your research, know the market, and know what similar houses have sold for around you to determine your asking price.

Overlooking repairs. Do the fixing up that is necessary before you put your house on the market. It will cost you less in the end to fix them ahead of time.

Either being too cluttered or empty. Experts say clutter is one of the least expensive improvements you can make to your home. Show the spaciousness by cleaning out the closets and clearing the counters.

Experts also say don't sell you house empty. Have it professionally staged instead, if you can't keep your furniture in there.

These experts say these are some of the most common and most avoidable mistakes and in this case it usually pays to do everything right. Many of the tips translate into a much higher bottom line for you when you sell.
