The automaker is recalling 883,000 model year 2011-2014 Sonata sedans.
Hyundai says the transmission shift cable can detach from the shift lever pin. That could cause the car to be in a different gear than shown on its dashboard.
Hyundai says dealers will inspect the shift cable and will make repairs, if necessary.
The other recall involves nearly 5,700 2015 Sonatas because of a brake issue. One or both of the front brake calipers can fracture due to a manufacturing error.
The recall covers vehicles made between April 25 and June 16.
Hyundai advises affected owners not drive the car and contact the company for a free fix.
