WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has released new numbers showing reports of sexual assault in the military are up 50 percent.

The Obama Administration says the surge in the annual report indicates more victims are willing to come forward.

The administration and Congress have put a greater focus on the issue after last year's report also showed a jump in reported sex abuse claims.

Since then, the White House says the military has taken steps to encourage more victims to come forward and to strengthen disciplinary action.
