Movoto Real Estate Blog ranked states based on their safety.

According to Movoto, they looked at the following metrics for their report: murders per 100,000 people, violent crimes per 100,000 people, property crime per 100,000 people, and total crime per 100,000 people. Data was derived from the 2010 U.S. Census and 2012 FBI Uniform Crime Report.

Based on the results, New Hampshire is the safest state in America, South Dakota has the least amount of property crime and total crime per capita, and Maine has the least amount of violent crime per capita.
