WASHINGTON - The U.S. Senate has passed a highway bill that will keep construction going for now.

The 81 to 13 vote passed on Thursday keep the fund running until May.

$11 billion will be added to the Highway Trust Fund to pay for road and bridge projects across the country. It'll cover 80 percent of the work in Vermont.

Governor Peter Shumlin released the following statement:

"Our economy depends upon a strong infrastructure. It's disappointing that Congress did not address the long-term challenge of declining revenues going into the Highway Trust Fund."
