Nearly 40 million fire extinguishers recalled

Kiddie is recalling nearly 40 million fire extinguishers because they can become clogged and might not work during an emergency.  The nozzle can also fly off with enough force to pose a hazard.

It involves 134 models made between January 1, 1973 and August 15, 2017, that's 37.8 million units. Two styles are affected: plastic hand fire extinguishers and push-button Pindicator fire extinguishers.

They were sold in red, white and silver, and are ABC or BC rated.  There have been 391 reports of failed or limited activation or nozzle detachment.  One person died, 16 people have been hurt.

Consumers should immediately contact Kiddie to get a free replacement, and instructions on returning the recalled unit.

Kidde toll-free at 855-271-0773 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET Saturday and Sunday, or online at and click on “Product Safety Recall” for more information.
