Essex, Vt. - A new food shelf is opening up in Essex at the end of August.
Aunt Dot's Place is pulling together loose ends at their new space on Center Road to open on August 26. It will be a permanent food shelf for Essex, Essex Junction, Westford, Jericho and Underhill residents.
Facilities manager Kitty Daly said that the food shelf was developed due to an overwhelming need.
"There are two existing food shelves in this area– both church related and they're only open one or two days per month," Daly said. "We're going to be open three days a week which should relieve the pressure on food shelves in the area."
Daly said the food shelf is looking for volunteers and food donations. However, she said they need refrigerators and freezers more than anything else.
