New Hampshire Police: Alcohol Appears to be Factor in Deadly Crash

10-year-old recovering in the hospital

Columbia, NH - New Hampshire State Police say a Colebrook man died after crashing into a tree on Carleton Hill Road in Columbia.

Authorities say Douglas Elliott, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene, a 10-year-old was airlifted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.  The child has non-life threatening injuries and is in stable condition.

Officials say it happened around 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

A preliminary investigation by police indicates the 2010 Chevrolet Silverado was heading east along Charleton Hill Road, when the driver lost control, causing the car to cross the road, and hit a tree on the westbound shoulder.

Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, according to police.  The incident is under investigation.
