Temperatures surged into the 40s on Saturday, and for some like Bennington, even close to 50.

The month of February is still running about a degree below average, but that will soon change. We've got one last day of relative mild weather on tap for Sunday, followed by another cold blast starting Monday.

Highs on Sunday will mostly be in the 30s, with low 40s in Southern Vermont and the Upper Valley. The jet stream sags south on Monday, allowing the colder air to push in. That will result in teens and 20s for highs all week, a good 10-15 degrees below average. Morning lows will be in the single digits for most.

Despite the cold, there are no major snow storms in sight. A few snow showers will fly, especially in the high terrain of Northern Vermont, New York, and New Hampshire Monday, but accumulations will be minor. A coastal storm tries to spin up off the Southern New England coast for mid-week, potentially bringing a few more snow showers, but for now it looks like we'd miss serious impacts.
