Late this afternoon sustained winds increased to 50 MPH, and forecasters at the National Hurricane Center expect that trend to continue. By late week Arthur will likely become a minimal hurricane with winds of 80-90 MPH. That will happen as the storm accelerates and moves north along the East Coast.
The Outer Banks will likely be impacted most by the storm, but the entire East Coast will see increased wave action this week thanks to the storm. That comes as many head to the beach for the holiday weekend.
New England will not be directly impacted by the storm, but moisture from Arthur may work into Southern New England.
We'll have more updates throughout the week.
