ALTON, N.H. - New Hampshire State Police say a powerboat slammed into a canoe on Lake Winnipesaukee Friday afternoon.

Marine Patrol says the accident took place at 3:40 p.m. Friday between Rattlesnake and Sleepers Island.

Police say the twenty foot powerboat was traveling 30 mph before the collision. The Idaho man in the canoe spotted the boat as it approached, and jumped out of the canoe before impact. He was not injured, nor were the two people on the powerboat.

The operator of the boat was identified by police as Robert Johnson, 74, of East Bridgewater, Mass. Police say alcohol does not appear to be a factor, but the investigation continues.
