COLCHESTER, Vt. - Local 22 & Local 44 learned exclusively Tuesday morning the Vermont Air National Guard received its deployment orders.
Local 22 & Local 44 first broke the story Monday. The guard would not initially confirm the possible deployment, but following our report, Vermont Adjutant Major General Steven Cray admitted the 158th Fighter Wing was preparing for a possible deployment.
At a press conference Tuesday afternoon, Cray announced the Air Guard received its official orders, but declined to elaborate on the exact mission. Wing Commander Col. Patrick Guinee said pilots, mechanics, and intelligence staff would be deployed over the next several weeks.
Sources told Local 22 & Local 44 hundreds of members of the Air Guard will be deployed to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility to fight terrorism. That area includes North Africa, the Middle East, and Central and South Asia. For security and safety reasons, we’ve decided to withhold the exact location.
The 158th Fighter Wing has roughly 1,100 members, according to guard officials.
