Gov. Cuomo Directs Flags to Half-Staff For Fallen Soldier

ALBANY, N.Y. -  New York Governor Andrew Cuomo directed flags on state government buildings to be flown at half-staff on Thursday to honor a fallen Fort Drum soldier.

A press release says Sergeant  Shawn Farrell II, died in Afghanistan on April 28 when enemy forces attacked his unit while on patrol. 

“On behalf of all New Yorkers, I extend my deepest sympathy to the family, friends and fellow soldiers of Sgt. Shawn Farrell,” Governor Cuomo said. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of this young man, who served our state and nation with honor. We will remember his service with pride."

Sgt. Farrell II was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment of the 10th Mountain Division's 3rd Brigade Combat Team.
