Man Arrested for Crossing the Canadian-US Border Illegally

CHAMPLAIN, N.Y. - A man is accused of crossing the United States border from Canada on Saturday night. The incident happened at around 11:45 p.m.

A press release says agents at the Swanton Sector Dispatch saw a man later identified as Rafael Cantin-Echevarria, a citizen and national of Cuba, cross the border at the end of Roxham Road. Agents found him hiding in the woods near Roxham Road. 

The agents conducted a field interview and arrested Cantin-Echevarria. He was transported to the Champlain Border Patrol Station for further immigration and criminal background checks. 

A press release says Cantin has an extensive immigration and criminal history. 

Cantin is currently being held at the Clinton County Jail for re-instatment of removal order with no bond.
