CENTRAL SQUARE, N.Y. - Police are investigating a fatal race track accident involving NASCAR star Tony Stewart.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office, the accident happened around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night at the Canandaigua Motorsports Park. Authorities say a race car spun out on lap 14 of a 25 lap race, coming to rest near an outer retaining wall. The driver of the car then returned to the track on foot.

Police say one car, still driving on the track, avoided the driver on foot. A second, operated by Stewart, struck the man. Officials say the man was transported to F.F. Thompson Hospital where he later died.

The investigation is ongoing, and police say Stewart is cooperating. If you have video of the incident, contact the Sheriff's Office at 585-394-4560.

According to FOX Sports, Stewart will not be racing at another event on Sunday in Watkins Glen, N.Y.
