PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Thousands of people lined the streets in Plattsburgh to celebrate Independence Day!

The parade wrapped through downtown Plattsburgh, starting at Bridge Street and ending on Cumberland Ave. This year's theme is a salute to our Armed Forces.

FOX 44 and ABC 22 spoke to some people in the crowd to see what the Fourth of July means to them.

"We love when we get to see the kids excited. We have nieces and nephews and so they love to watch the parade, they love to eat all the food, running into old friends and family that you don't get to see very often," Katie Sterling said.

"It's a big celebration, not only to be with everybody,  but celebrating America and it's birthday," Shannon Passno said. "It's historic, but it's still a big celebration and a family thing."

FOX 44 and ABC 22 also participated in the parade.

Many people say they planned to stick around for the fireworks Friday night. Those start at 9:20 p.m.
