Essex Junction, Vt. - The Essex Westford School District's latest update unfortunately wasn't the one they wanted to put out.
The consolidated district is composed of Essex, Westford and Essex Junction. Essex Junction didn't have school buses accessible to them so the District hired a contractor called Mountain Transit to find 11 new bus drivers to cover new routes.
Brian Donahue of the District said despite recruitment efforts only one new driver applied.
"Having only one driver identified at this point– needing ten more," Donahue said. "We just couldn't come over the obstacle despite our best efforts and our real intent to add this service to our community."
All in all, for this school year nothing will really change. Donahue said they hope to push forward and get bus transportation for the entire district for 2018-2019 school year.
However, there is one new thing this year. Two bus routes for Westford high school students have been added.
