Northern Vermont University Reveals New Logo

Vermont - Northern Vermont University has revealed its new logo.

Northern Vermont University will be the unification of Johnson State University and Lyndon State University.

In September of 2016 the Vermont State College Board of Trustees approved a plan to merge the colleges under one administration saying it will be more resourceful to students.

Lyndon and Johnson will unify in July of 2018 and will welcome its first incoming students in the fall.

Northern Vermont University sent the following statement to Local 22 & Local 44 about the new logo.

Dear Lyndon and Johnson Communities,

We are excited to release the new Northern Vermont University logo developed by our branding firm, Ologie, and Eric Kirk '07, Lyndon graduate and Johnson's marketing design and production manager.

This design ties to our location in the mountains of northern Vermont as well as to our respective college logos. Vermont’s mountains are iconic to our state and to our campuses. The twin peaks symbolize the mountains we see from both our campuses and our pride in our hilltop locations. The mountains also symbolize the unity of our institutions as we become Northern Vermont University.

The design harkens to the Johnson State and Lyndon State logos by bringing elements of both logos into the design. We wanted to maintain the connections faculty, staff, students, and alumni have to our current logos by retaining the most memorable elements—Johnson’s mountains and Lyndon’s crest/shield.

By working with all these elements, we were able to create a logo that is academic, inclusive, modern, and strong. It is an emblem that will stand among its competitors and last as the iconic symbol of Northern Vermont University for generations to come.
