Plattsburgh, N.Y. -
According to a media release, the City of Plattsburgh is hosting its first Summer Fest event at the Plattsburgh City Beach in July.
Officials say the Summerfest event will combine the Bassmaster Elite Series and East Coast Watercross events together for a family friendly weekend.
The Bassmaster Elite Series will be held on July 27 to July 30 and will include a Bassmaster’s Outdoor Expo on July 29 to July 30 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. daily. The big prize at the Bassmaster Elite Series is $100,000 and a chance at the 2018 Geico Bassmaster Classic. The expo will have local vendors and free giveaways as well as outdoor activities.
The East Coast Watercross event will be held on July 29 to July 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Plattsburgh City Beach.
"We have the option to hold races in 13 states within our region and, as you can imagine, that allows for a lot of options both in lakes and on the ocean. However, most Cities simply do not have such a large public beach area to accommodate all the racers. Plattsburgh will not only be a perfect race location, but it will also be a great getaway for the hundreds of racers traveling from as far south as Florida. We are honored to help introduce these racers to the Adirondacks in the ‘real’ Upstate NY,” said Event Organizer Christopher Yates.
The press conference also announced the following fishing tournaments to be held on Lake Champlain this year.
- June 10: Ram Open Series
- June 22-24: FLW Costa Series
- July 22: Northern Bass Open
- August 26: Collegiate Cup Challenge
“Each year we continue to see the economic benefits of these top-quality national and regional fishing tournaments. This year we saw an opportunity to grow this tourism experience by combining two fun-filled events right on the waters of Lake Champlain, providing an action-packed weekend for visitors and residents. We truly value our partnership with the City; they’re a tremendous help in pulling off an event of this size and caliber. We’re looking forward to an exciting and lucrative 2017 pro bass fishing season,” said Adirondack Coast Visitors Bureau Director of Tourism Kristy Kennedy.
