Outing on Lake Champlain Frightens Boaters

Burlington, Vt. - A frightening afternoon for some boaters on Lake Champlain Wednesday afternoon.

Onlookers thought a sailboat capsized in the area of Burlington’s Oakledge Park when a strong thunderstorm rolled through around 3:00 p.m.

Witnesses called 9-1-1.

Responding rescue crews scoured the water and were able to find the people who were on the boat. It turns out the boat was blown into Shelburne Marina.

The people who were on board the boat are safe and uninjured.

Crews say if you plan to head out on the water, it's a good idea to check the forecast.
