MONTPELIER, Vt. - A parade to honor Vermont Olympian Amanda Pelkey is scheduled for Friday in Montpelier.
Pelkey, of Montpelier, recently returned from South Korea after playing on the U.S. women’s hockey team. Pelkey brought back her first Olympic gold medal.
City officials say Amanda and her family will ride in the parade, which is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. at Montpelier High School. The route will go along State Street, turning right onto Main Street, and ending at City Hall (located at 39 Main Street).
Montpelier Assistant City Manager Susan Allen says several speakers will honor Amanda, including newly elected Mayor Anne Watson, and Jim Plumer, Amanda’s college coach.
Allen says the City will also present Amanda with the Olympic flag that has hung outside City Hall throughout the 2018 Winter Games to honor her.
The city is inviting people to walk along the route, behind the Pelkeys.
