Parking in Downtown Burlington? Here are the changes to certain hours, fees and more

Changes go into effect Dec. 1

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Just in time for holiday shopping, there are changes to parking hours, fees on the Park Mobile app and more in Downtown Burlington.

Chapin Spencer, Director of Public Works, says he's excited about the completed $2.5 million in upgrades and repairs to the College Street parking garage.

There are structural repairs, new paint, improved drainage, and cost-efficient LED lights.

"They're smart LED's, so they can operate based on occupancy, based on ambient light levels."

Spencer says the repairs inside the College Street Garage were crucial.

"This garage is gonna be used very heavily over the next couple of years with the Burlington Town Center reinvestment and the taking offline of their garage, during that construction," said Spencer.

The department also added security cameras to the College Street garage and Lakeview Garage.

The cameras have a live feed to dispatchers with the Burlington Police Department.

The department also did some research about metered parking.

"We manage our system on street to hit an 85% occupancy," said Spencer.

The city wasn't seeing that early in the morning, or late at night, according to Spencer.

Wednesday night, the Public Works Commission unanimously passed a measure to roll back enforcement hours for on-street metered parking.

Currently, hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the downtown core.

Starting December 1, meter hours in the downtown core will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 9 p.m.

If you choose to pay on the Park Mobile app, there's good news for your bank account, which also begins December 1.

"There's a 35-cent fee to start a parking session through Park Mobile now. That fee will be reduced to 30-cents, and we are eliminating completely the fee for renewing or extending your stay," said Spencer.

The Burlington Business Association, in conjunction with the DPW and Church Street Marketplace, is also offering a holiday parking promotion.

Beginning November 25, and running for four consecutive Saturdays (Nov. 25, Dec. 2, Dec. 9 and Dec. 16), you can get a $3 discount at all citty-run lots and on street meters throughout Burlington, using the Park Mobile app.

Each Saturday will have a unique code; users will be allowed one session on each of the Saturdays.

Below are the promo codes for each day:

December 2nd, 2017: BTVDEC2
