COLCHESTER, Vt. - The search for a missing woman in Colchester resumed for a second day Tuesday morning.
Police say Cynthia Whalen, 52, wandered away from a camp on Niquette Bay Road at 11:20 p.m. Sunday. Her disappearance was reported an hour later.
On Tuesday, crews focused searching the waters of Niquette Bay. A drone was also used to survey the area she was last seen.
"We are definitely hopeful we will find her alive. At this point we feel if she is alive she would have wandered outside of the search zone. We think it's unlikely as far as wandering away,” said Colchester Police Lt. Doug Allen.
During Monday’s search efforts, Whalen’s shoes were found near a beaver dam not far away from where she was last seen. Police say they appeared to have washed up there.
Police described Whalen as a white female, approximately 5’8” in height, with a medium build. She was last seen wearing khaki cargo-type shorts, and a tan top.
Police say foul play is not suspected.
